Roshan Defends his PhD
Congratulations to Roshan Priyantha for successfully defending his PhD! Roshan was a founding member of theRubinlab, joining in September 2013.
Roshan’s thesis focused on antimicrobial resistance in Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, an important pathogen of dogs. Throughout his research Roshan addressed questions relating to the emergence of resistance in the Saskatoon area, comparing isolates from different types of infections and identifying the molecular basis for tetracycline resistance using whole genome sequencing and gene expression studies. He also had the opportunity to take part in a collaborative study where he characterized the single largest collection of human S. pseudintermedius isolates described in the literature.
Thank you very much to all of Roshan’s committee members Drs. Janet Hill, Manuel Chirino-Trejo, Harry Deneer, Casey Gaunt and Dr. Darren Trott of the University of Adelaide for serving as external examiner.
Roshan will be returning home to Sri Lanka to rejoin his wife and two children, and assume his position as a microbiologist at the Veterinary Research Institute in Kandy, Sri Lanka. We wish him all the best for the future and look forward to hearing of his successes!
